The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) in the National Capital Region (NCR) has issued Wage Order No. NCR-24, which increases the daily minimum wage for workers in the non-agriculture sector to Php610. This is a 7% increase from the previous minimum wage of Php570.
The new minimum wage will take effect on July 16, 2023. It will cover all private sector workers in NCR, including those employed in establishments with 15 or less workers.
The RTWPB said that the increase in the minimum wage was necessary to help workers cope with the rising cost of living. The inflation rate in NCR for the month of June 2023 was 6.1%, which is above the government's target of 2-4%.
The increase in the minimum wage is also expected to boost the economy by increasing consumer spending.
